Wellesley Attractions and Entertainment

If you’re looking at Wellesley apartments or homes for sale, it is important to consider what the town has to offer. Fortunately, the prices of its homes and the prestige of its universities do allow for quite a bit of culture and entertainment. With Boston just ten minutes away, Wellesley really is an ideal place to bring your family for safe, well-cultured living.

The Arts

The pair of private universities in Wellesley allow for a wealth of artistic expression to flourish. In addition to campus events that can turn Wellesley apartments in Babson Square into energetic places, Wellesley College is home to the H.H. Hunnewell Arboretum and many greenhouses for the green thumbs of the area. The entrance to the Elm Bank Horticultural Center, home of the Massachusetts Horticultural Society, is located on the Wellesley bank of the Charles River.
The musical tradition is quite strong here. Wellesley has a symphony orchestra, which performs classical, pop, and family concerts on the Wellesley campus of Massachusetts Bay Community College. Wellesley can also claim several musicians as past residents, including Steven Tyler, the lead singer of Aerosmith; Billy Squier; and Ossian Everett Mills, founder of the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia fraternity.

Local Celebrities

Other notable Wellesley residents include writers Sylvia Plath and Vladimir Nabokov; Nobel laureates Emily Greene Balch and Joseph E. Murray (Peace and Medicine, respectively); and business magnates Brian Moynihan, CEO of the Bank of America, Biz Stone, co-founder of Twitter, and Andrea Jung, CEO of Avon Products. Living in Wellesley, you’ll get a glimpse of celebrity and historic homes in the area.

Wellesley Square is home to a large number small businesses and unique boutiques that showcase the artistic side of Wellesley’s residents. There is also a shopping center at Linden Square that includes spas, fitness clubs, a few clothing shops, and several dining options.

Much of Wellesley real estate is located near a park, several of which are present in the city. The Charles River and numerous lakes, the largest of which is Lake Waban near Wellesley College, provide for a wide variety of water sports as well. Summers are pleasantly temperate with highs in the mid-80s, but winters are quite harsh with an average snowfall of 15 inches. The biggest community celebration is called the Wellesley’s Wonderful Weekend, held every year the weekend before Memorial Day. The fireworks display is widely regarded as one of the best community displays in the country. The celebration also includes the Wellesley Veteran’s Day Parade.
