Somerville boasts modern apartments for rent, classic-style family homes, and upscale condos. The New England area offers incomparable fall foliage, access to the historic Mystic River, and several distinctive neighborhoods. Residents are culturally-diverse and the town has achieved a balance between modern technology and a historic atmosphere. No matter your style, you are sure to find yourself at home in one of the houses for sale or Somerville apartments for rent.

Spring Hill

Spring Hill is a high-end area atop a hill in the center of the city. It has predominantly historic architecture with many homes in Queen Anne, Greek Revival, and Victorian styles. Many Spring Hill homes are designated on the National Register of Historic Places. If you are looking for a big, bold piece of architecture, you cannot go wrong with Somerville real estate in the Spring Hill neighborhood.

Winter Hill

The Winter Hill neighborhood is similar to Spring Hill, with older homes and significant historic architectural styles. However, there have been a number of modernization projects to restore some of the aging homes. The neighborhood is also lined with a number of triple-decker apartment buildings. Many of these were built in the early 1900s and are quite beautiful when restored. The efficiency over other types of housing ensures that these Somerville apartment rates are low. Winter Hill is the location of the Langmaid Terrace apartment building where President Barack Obama lived while attending university at Harvard from 1988 to 1991. You’ll have a variety of housing options if searching for Somerville real estate in this area.

Powder House Circle

This quaint neighborhood is built around a six-way intersection and traffic circle. It is located near Tufts University’s Somerville-Medford campus and the site of the historic American Revolutionary landmark for which it is named. Home sale prices in the area increased by 25 percent from 2013 to 2014. Many of the homes in this area have been wonderfully maintained and boast as many as five to seven bedrooms. The quality of homes, paired with the nearby access to local shopping and dining attractions, makes it a highly desired area.

East Somerville

The East Somerville neighborhood was originally part of the nearby city of Charlestown. It is the most densely populated part of town and is distinguished by narrow streets and small lots. This necessitated urban-style construction in the late 1800s that inspired the Greek Revival and Italianate style houses. Pearl Street offers a particularly scenic view as it overlooks the city of Boston from atop a ridge. Find a Somerville apartment for rent or for sale here if a view is one of your must-haves.
