Somerville Massachusetts Real Estate

Somerville real estate provides so much more than just a place to live. This quaint town opens its doors wide to new residents, even going so far as to prepare a welcome package for newcomers on their website. In addition to a welcome letter from the Mayor, you’ll find information about every government service you could need, as well as brochures for local businesses and attractions. The town government has worked to make the moving process as painless as possible and help you seamlessly transition into your new Somerville real estate.

In fact, this city has done so much to make life easier for its residents, The Boston Globe went so far as to call Somerville “The Model City.” The Globe cited its proficiency with technology, including a hotline to help residents with common questions and computerized tracking of city services.  What’s more, the town recognizes that there is always room for improvement, so they openly base their budget on the performance of each department.

Perhaps all this efficiency arose out of necessity. With 76,000 residents packed into 4.1 square miles, there doesn’t seem to be room for mistakes. As the New England city with the highest population density, the town has evolved into an area where the government treats its residents like customers and seems to be actively putting customer service first.

All these achievements have occurred despite a population that is generally less financially well-off than the surrounding areas. The various departments of government work easily together, while the community at large creates novel and better systems on a continuous basis. In fact, the community strives to incorporate more innovative business opportunities into their everyday life. This ideal has led Somerville to be dubbed “Innovation City.” One example of this spirit is the welcoming of Greentown Labs to the area, corporation that not only specializes in clean energy and clean tech, but also has the ability to add more jobs and more variety to Somerville life.

With all this efficiency and self-sufficiency, don’t think that Somerville is all business. Each month in the summer is highlighted by SomerStreets events; a time when roads are closed to cars and open to residents. The street fair seems to have a little bit of everything, including a family bike ride, a health and fitness fair, live music, a craft fair, and much more. There’s something for everyone willing to explore the streets of Somerville.

Whether it’s the innovative governing style or the economic recovery gaining momentum, Somerville MA real estate has seen a dramatic incline in home value over the last few months. Whereas other areas are struggling to reach pre-recession values, Somerville real estate is nearing its highest value in the last ten years. This community is on the rise, so contact a Century 21 Commonwealth agent to take part in this momentous growth.
