Newton Massachusetts Real Estate
Newton is a beautiful town outside of Boston with an incredible history. The historical society has treasures from as recently as WWII, and stretching as far back as thousands of years. Four of the districts in the town are designated historical districts; Newton Upper Falls, Chestnut Hill, Newtonville, and Auburndale. Each one is closely monitored to ensure that the historic value of the properties are maintained despite the constant change of modern life.
Auburndale began as a farming community, and today retains its natural flavor in the form of rolling wooded hills and marshes. The community was only a few families until the railroad created a stop in the city center and people were able to live in this beautiful area while maintaining their close connections to Boston and other areas. The town was built up with the goal of creating a convenient commuter area for Boston workers.
Newtonville was built with the same goal, which transformed the simple wooden houses into expansive estates suitable for the many businessmen and professionals that traveled to the town each day. The tree-lined streets perfectly accent he many Victorian style homes, and the community has created an array of schools and convenient shopping locations for the modern resident.
Chestnut Hill is a neighborhood in the easternmost part of Newton. Here, the intent was not simply to create a commuter town, but rather to establish country estates throughout the region. In pursuit of that goal, most of the homes were constructed in Georgian, Colonial Revival, or Shingle, each with an aura of luxury and a visual tie to history. Moreover, the lots are unusually large, some even with working farms.
Newton Upper Falls is the only neighborhood in Newton believed to have retained its original name from the 1600’s. Upper Falls has 150 historical buildings that seem to bring you back to that simpler time. While taking in the historical sites, you can wander down the banks of the Charles River. Though it is shallower now than it was in colonial days, it’s still easy to imagine how the original settlers felt while fishing and working on its banks.
With such a beautiful tie to the past, it’s no wonder that Newton homes for sale are in such high demand. Over the past few years, even with the recession, the home value in this area has remained relatively constant, and with the improving market, those values are actually increasing. The Newton properties available are absolutely breath-taking, and you’re sure to fall in love just by taking a home tour.
