Holliston Massachusetts Real Estate

If you’re looking for a quaint bedroom community near Boston, then Holliston real estate is perfect for you.  The town center provides antiquing, a unique general store, and white-steeple churches.  With a rich history and a growing community, Holliston homes have something for everyone.

Holliston was merely a part of the town of Sherborn until 1724, when it broke free and was declared its own town.  At the time, it was only a few hundred families, but it has grown to nearly 15,000.  Because of its proximity to Boston, the town was a resting point for General George Washington’s army during the Revolutionary War.  Following that, the town made headlines in 1894 for being the “quintessential New England village,” called so because of the undeniable will of its people.

One of the biggest, and most unusual, attractions in Holliston is what has been dubbed the Balancing Rock.  This boulder of over 5 tons seems to be balancing on another boulder, each touching the other only at a small corner.  The Balancing Rock looks as if a strong storm could send it crashing down, yet it has remained immobile for hundreds of years.  In fact, during the Continental Army’s trek through the area, many of the soldiers paused to see if they could topple this precarious object.  It is rumored that General George Washington himself joined in the effort, but as evidenced by the position of the Balancing Rock today, he and his soldiers were all unsuccessful.

Today, Holliston retains its charming New England lifestyle, while indulging in a multitude of modern amenities.  Prominent among its attractions is The Fairview at Pinecrest, a luxury golf course that contains a clubhouse, a pond, and a gorgeous view.  The clubhouse is often rented out for weddings and other special events, though the course itself is certainly the main attraction.

In the past, the streets of Holliston have been surrounded by factories and farms.  Today, many of the farms remain functioning, keeping a steady source of fresh produce in the town.  The factories have closed down, but the town has transformed them into artists’ studios and various other facilities, adding to the cultural appeal of the community.

As a predominantly single-family home community, it’s no wonder that so many Boston businessmen chose Holliston, MA real estate for their families. The commute into town is easy, and the culture surrounding Holliston is undeniable. Moreover, the area is experiencing a sharp increase in home prices recently, due, no doubt, to the improving economy and housing market. As home values increase the community becomes even more attractive, making Holliston homes an easy choice for home buyers.
