Blackstone Massachusetts Real Estate

Waterfall at Blackstone Gorge in Blackstone, MA.

Blackstone, Massachusetts is a small, friendly town located just north of the Rhode Island border. The town takes its name from the nearby Blackstone River, which was the site of the first water-powered cotton mill and a major catalyst for the American Industrial Revolution. Developers have taken a moderated approach to residential and commercial growth, and the town has local scenic road bylaws that have kept its rustic landscape and picturesque features largely intact. Blackstone properties often appeal to people who are looking for a quiet but connected community and a change from big city life.

Just under 10,000 people call Blackstone home. The town’s top industries are health care, media and communications, and banking and finance. While there are employment opportunities in Blackstone, especially with big companies like Citizens Financial Group, Staples, and Enterprise Medical Services, a number of residents commute to Boston (about 53 miles northeast) or Providence, Rhode Island (about 18 miles south).

Blackstone is served by the Blackstone-Millville School District, which includes three elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. The school district is well-respected and places an emphasis on providing leadership opportunities for students and staying connected with the larger community. Additionally, Blackstone is within commuting distance of several prestigious universities, including Brown, Wellesley, University of Massachusetts, Bryant University, and Dean College. With its highly-regarded public education system, short driving distance to many colleges, and low crime rate, Blackstone is generally regarded as a good place to raise a family.

The cost of living in Blackstone is much lower than in Boston or Providence, and those considering moving to the area will be pleased to find that Blackstone homes for sale are also typically less expensive per square foot than they would be in a larger city. Because the town is small and has lots of open space, many of the single-family Blackstone homes on the market are fairly large, often ranging from 1,800 to 2,800 square feet with three or more bedrooms. There are also a number of one-, two-, or even three-bedroom Blackstone apartments and condos available for rent.
