This is a good neighborhood for anyone who commutes to Boston thanks to the proximity of the North Quincy Red Line station.
West of North Quincy and just south of the Neponset River is Montclair. Adam’s Shore and Houghs Neck
Just east of Merrymount is Adam’s Shore, which leads into the peninsular neighborhood of Houghs Neck. Although once a summer resort area, the two neighborhoods now have some of the most affordable housing in Quincy. Potential homebuyers should keep in mind that it is helpful to own a car in Houghs Neck, as it is somewhat removed from the MBTA lines.
With average rent prices of just over $500, Germantown may be a good place for younger people to look for Quincy, MA apartments. In addition to being one of the most affordable neighborhoods in Quincy, Germantown is also located on its own peninsula just south of Houghs Neck, and many of its houses and apartments overlook the water.
Quincy Point is a highly diverse waterfront neighborhood that grew out of the fishing industry. John Adams and John Quincy Adams made their home in Quincy center, and the neighborhood remains the heart of the city today. Most of the residents of Quincy Center are renters who live in apartment complexes and who enjoy being able to walk to restaurants and shops, as well as the Quincy Center Red Line station.
As the city’s granite industry developed, so did West Quincy. Today, however, many former granite quarries have been filled in to make way for condos and other developments.
