Quincy Attractions and Entertainment

Quincy, Massachusetts is located just 11 miles south of Boston, and multiple Red Line stations make it easy for residents to commute. However, you don’t have to leave Quincy to find great entertainment and historical attractions. The city is rapidly developing from a suburb of Boston into a thriving community with its own distinct character, so it’s no wonder Quincy, MA real estate is in such high demand.

Historical Sites

Quincy is the birthplace of two US presidents—John Adams and his son, John Quincy Adams, and you can certainly see these two leaders’ marks on the town. Adams National Historic Park includes the modest, “salt box” house where John Adams was born, the stately Quincy house at Peacefield that served as the home for four generations of Adams, and the Stone Library, a medieval-style library commissioned by John Quincy.

Right next door to the Historic Park you’ll find the United First Parish Church, which contains the crypt of John Adams, John Quincy Adams, and their wives. The church is still operating today, but visitors can request a guided tour of “The Church of the Presidents”.

Shopping and Dining

Quincy contains several distinct shopping districts, including Quincy Center, Wollaston, Norfolk Downs, and Marina Bay. Located on the water and with an excellent view of the Boston skyline, Marina Bay is a particularly popular destination. Enjoy indoor and outdoor waterfront dining at both casual and upscale restaurants, and treat yourself to ice cream at Cream & Sugar during the warmer months. If you’re interested in living close to the action, you can even look for Quincy apartments and Quincy condos for sale in Marina Bay.

If you’re looking for even more shopping options, you can try South Shore Plaza in nearby Braintree. This upscale mall contains more than 200 stores and restaurants, so it’s a pretty safe bet that you’ll find what you’re looking for.

Culture and Community Events

If you or someone in your family is an amateur or professional artist, you may be interested in getting involved with the Quincy Arts Association. This organization offers open studios, classes, and workshops for children and adults working in a variety of mediums. If you’re more interested in theater, you’ll be happy to know that Quincy recently got its own community theater group, the Theatre Makers of Quincy. And if you love live music, you can check out some of the local restaurants and bars that regularly book live acts, including South Shore Music Hall, Paddy Barry’s, and Maggy’s Lounge.

When looking for community events, start your search at Quincy Center. This downtown district hosts several large events throughout the year, including an annual sidewalk sale in July and parades for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Flag Day.

Getting Outdoors

With over 27 miles of coastline, Quincy is a beachgoers paradise. Wollaston Beach is the largest public beach in town, with 2.5 miles of clean white sand and spectacular views of the Boston skyline. Locals and visitors alike come here to walk, jog, people-watch, or just relax in the sun.

For a complete escape from the city, you can venture to the nearby Blue Hills Reservation. With over 7,000 acres, this nature preserve is great for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, picnicking, and skiing during the winter.
