A Guide to Plymouth, MA Real Estate

With a population of about 52,000 people, Plymouth has the distinction of being one of the biggest towns in Massachusetts. Plymouth can be divided into several prominent neighborhoods, each with their own character, unique amenities, and distinct architectural styles. If you’re looking for Plymouth real estate but aren’t sure where to start, read the short profiles of several notable neighborhoods below.

North Plymouth

Located close to downtown, North Plymouth is an up-and-coming area where many first time homebuyers search for affordable Plymouth homes for sale. According to City-Data, the median house or condo value in this neighborhood in 2012 was $292,405, up from $157,700 in 2012. Those who aren’t ready to buy can also find many Plymouth apartments for rent. Rather than large apartment complexes, most of the apartment units in this neighborhood are located in old Victorian houses, duplexes, or three-decker homes.

Plymouth Center

While urban centers are usually notorious for their high cost of living, Plymouth’s town center is not significantly more expensive to live in than other parts of town. Average rent here is just over $1,000, and the median real estate price is about $309,260. Plymouth Center is primarily made up of apartment complexes and older houses built close together, and residents are a mix of renters and homeowners. People who live here enjoy restaurants, shops, and beaches within easy walking distance.

Chiltonville

If you’re looking for a Plymouth house in a quieter part of town, you may want to start your search in Chiltonville. This neighborhood, which is just south of Plymouth Center, gives residents easy access to beaches and the highway, but it is far enough removed from downtown to have a more relaxed atmosphere. The area consists mostly of small and medium-sized single-family homes as well as several large apartment complexes. With its wide range of housing options, this area tends to appeal to retirees and families with school-age children.

South Pond

South Pond is another relatively quiet neighborhood and, because it includes the Myles Standish State Park, it’s arguably one of the most scenic places in town. The area is dominated by medium to large single-family homes, most of which are owner-occupied.

Manomet

Manomet is a neighborhood located near Whitehorse Beach in South Plymouth. Many Plymouth, MA homes for sale here were built in the late twentieth century, although there has also been some new development in the past decade. This neighborhood has a high concentration of married couples as well as families with school-age children.

Ellisville

If you’re looking for affordable Plymouth, MA apartments, Ellisville is a good place to start looking due to its below-average rental price of $866, according to Neighborhood Scout. While the average rent here is lower, housing prices tend to be slightly higher thanks to Ellisville’s waterfront location. This neighborhood is known for having good public schools nearby and is popular with families.

Cedarville

Cedarville is the farthest south neighborhood in Plymouth. The area is characterized by a number of vacation homes which are unoccupied part of the year, but it is also considered a family-friendly area with good schools. The neighborhood mostly consists of small to medium single-family homes and small apartment buildings.
