Lexington Attractions and Entertainment

If you’re looking at Lexington, MA real estate, you’re also looking at a thriving community with a rich history. Lexington homes for sale are located approximately fifteen miles outside of Boston, making it easy for residents to commute to the big city. However, there are also plenty of things to do within the town of about 31,000 people. Whether you’re just visiting or are actively searching for Lexington properties, read on to learn about the attractions and entertainment you can enjoy in the ‘birthplace of America’.

Historical Sites

One of the first stops for many new residents and visitors to Lexington is the historic Battle Green. This plot of land in the center of town was the site of the first skirmish in the Revolutionary War. Today, the 1775 battle is commemorated by the Henry H. Kitson Minuteman Statue, which is also the oldest war memorial in the country.

While visiting the Battle Green, many people tour the nearby Buckman Tavern. This inn, which began operating in the early 18th century, was the site where Lexington’s local militia met before facing the British soldiers on the Green. The interior has been restored so that it looks much as it would have during the 1700s, and visitors can enjoy a self-guided or staff-led tour.

Culture and Commerce

To get a feel of the local Lexington culture, head to the historic downtown center near the Battle Green. Massachusetts Avenue is home to a wide range of unique local shops selling everything from jewelry to running apparel to arts and crafts supplies. There are also quite a few bakeries, cafes, and restaurants within easy walking distance of the Battle Green. Lexington apartments are in high demand in this area, as many young professionals want to live close to downtown, but there are typically some rental units available on Massachusetts Avenue and other nearby streets.

In addition to the downtown shopping and dining scene, Lexington also has an active arts culture. Residents can enjoy performances by groups including the Lexington Symphony Orchestra and the Lexington Players (a community theater organization) throughout the year, and those interested in honing their artistic skills can enroll in a wide range of community classes at the Munroe Center for the Arts.

Nature and Recreation

Those who enjoy spending as much time outside as possible may be interested in looking at Lexington real estate that overlooks scenic woodland areas or that sits near one of the town’s many biking and walking paths. The Minuteman Bikeway, an 11-mile paved path running from Cambridge to Bedford, passes directly through Lexington, and the Minute Man National Historical Park provides a scenic five mile trail for hikers and cyclists.

In addition to these outdoor spaces, the town of Lexington operates several public sports facilities, including basketball courts, playgrounds, tot lots, a running track, and tennis courts. When you move into a Lexington house, you won’t have trouble finding ways to stay fit.

A scenic setting and highly-engaged community make Lexington homes highly desirable for many people moving to the greater Boston area. If you’re starting to think that living in Lexington sounds pretty appealing, talk to a CENTURY 21 realtor about Lexington, MA homes for sale now.
